Spirit , 8"x8", acrylic on panel

I have been going to different churches a lot lately. I consider myself a spiritual person, but not exactly religious.
I don't really know where I belong, but I like comparing the different philosophies and seeing where the connections are.
I do believe in love and kindness. That's pretty universal.
This is for my monthly challenge group-our theme this month is "spirit".

ch- ch -ch- changes

It started out easy-but I had to change it a lot- still working on this one.
Everytime I looked at it I didn't like it. I put sand in the paint and scumbled it on the foreground, when that dries more color will go on top- lately I feel like I need more texture in my painting. I like it more now.
Hope everyone had a grateful Thanksgiving- I sure did!

Kate

I painted this bowl with two pears this morning- Kate made it and I love it.
Kate is fighting a malignant brain tumor. She is the most courageous person I know .
Here is a picture of her in my back yard playing frisbee-- this was taken in 1975.

Below is a group of us at a sleepover- I think it was in 1972

Clockwise from left: Joyce Salvaggio (Arnold). Debbie( Rushton) Ellis, Daryl (Smalley) Mackenzie, Kate (Lyons) Disantis,Cheryl MacKenzie, me, and Janice Cumming.
I think we had all been swimming( or in the rain)
oh the good times.....
The fundraiser was a big success.
They raised over 60,000 tonight at the event. Governor Patrick made an appearance- he was a customer of Kates at Bella's in Randolph ( I shook his hand!)

Shaker Story 20"x20" and Firebird 8"x10" acrylics on canvas

This started out from a shaker spirit or gift drawing and somehow morphed into this mexican looking painting.
There is a story here.

This was a demo I did for a class. I lifted the image from a piece of a book cover.
Both of these started with a black background.

a nice morning

Today was the day the Duxbury senior center came to visit the Museum with early Alzheimer group.
We watched Rose Frantzen's portrait dvd, and then we painted pictures.
I drew turkeys for them to paint- they really seem to enjoy it.
I painted a couple of the members as they were painting.
They are amazing and all have their stories.
I love these guys.

SOOPER weekend!

What a weekend- chock a block full of art events- and it was all great.
Started off at my open studio- a total blast and thank you to all of you who showed up!
It was great to see everybody.

I taught a class in japanese painting today- here is my version of "water"

This sweet  girl painted "moon" and "lotus". It was incredible  see these gifted kids creating.
She incorprated the kangi words into the images.

The weekend finished with Kelley and my opening at Bella's- so cool to see everyone! Great pasta too...

My Dad

I started this portrait last April while visiting my Dad in Hawaii- it only got to the rough state. The other night I attempted to finish- and still have a way to go, but I think I captured a bit of his sparkle. I am inspired by Rose Frantzen .
She set out to paint a town!
I e-mailed Rose and she  kindly gave me her palette- so I bought some new colors!
I am considering painting everyone in my family-hmmmmm- a great idea - not a lot of marketing potential- but it would be so fun!
