On the Rocks with friends

This couple came out to sit on the rocks while we were painting last week in Maine. They told me their sweet  dog is 15 years old and they were enjoying some family time while Kelley MacDonald, Peggy Bruno and I painted quietly.
I wish these moments could be bottled- perhaps thats why I am so compelled to paint!

Lupines in Maine

This house was a short walk from the farmhouse where we stayed last week. The lupines were in full tilt! I set up my chair under a row of beach roses and the smell was intoxicating.

Its a bit unfinished , but not sure I plan to do much more. It was just fun.

I can't believe my Mom's been gone almost two years. This really doesn't look like her but it captures the essence of her beauty. This is a copy of a painting
a local artist painted  for a play she was in called "Laura"
I have it in my house now.

Gratitude # 130

Back from my trip- what a glorious week we had. Sadly one of the gang couldn't come and she was missed. I painted this pretty iris on the first morning.
We painted up a storm and the evenings were rich with food and spirits and conversation.

I love the smell of the balsam pillows. SO nostalgic!

I enjoyed doing these panoramic format pieces in watercolor. this is about 5"x16"

Maine!

My trip to maine with 5 other artists is finally here. We stay at a big ol' farmhouse in New Harbor, which is up near Wiscasset.
I'm bringing watercolors and acrylics and lots of beads to play with! And books and food and my pillow.  I plan to resume my gratitudes as well.
This past month has been so busy I might just do nothing.

These are watercolor paintings I did the first year I was there in 2006.

Sneak Peek of Amelia

I am almost done with Amelia.
She is moving to Brockton to the Fuller Museum on Friday.
Here is a detail .
I will unveil the finished piece when I get the details of the show.
It opens in July sometime.
I cannot wait to get this done- as fun as she was to make- it has consumed me.
I am very grateful for my husband who is the chief cook these days so I can be out in my studio.
of course, I am already planning my next iconic woman piece. Any ideas?

Gratitude # 126

I loved the story about Miss Rumphius.
( there's a short video on this link if you want to be read to!)
She planted  lupines in Maine.
My neighbor put in a huge meadow in their front yard instead of grass and it's filled with these beauties right now.

Commission for First Parish Church

It was a special honor to be asked to paint this for Vicki Weinstein- a friend and also the minister of the Unitarian First Parish of Norwell.
Norwell is my home town and I love the center.
This was fun. Here are a few details ( I put a few sneakily up on FB to tease her- she had no idea!)

Gratitude #125

My niece, Kellie Brooks Dean, graduated with honors yesterday on the brand new stadium at Marshfield High.
I am a proud Auntie!I have watched Kellie grow up and am so thrilled that she will attend Roger Williams in the fall- in Bristol, RI- my husbands home town.

It was a little warm in the sun...

Kellies Mom and I painted a mural for the all night grad party .
That was a lot of fun!

Whoever did the Nemo area was amazing!
The parents who volunteer work so hard.
Hats off to them
Hope the kids had a blast last night!

Darla in the window- brilliant!
I love this picture.
This lady is going to get eaten by a shark!

gratitude# 124

This is a big gratitude. We honor those who fought for our freedom.

See how behind I am?
