mermaid and her moon

I used the back of the cradled panel as a shadowbox,    cut out the plywood mermaid and added wood sides- this morning when I went out to my studio I discovered some hooligans had been playing with her décolletage!
Who could that of been?
And there was the distinct aroma of merlot... hmm.

I know this winter has been cold and long. But last night I when I was coming back into the house I  was awed by the beauty of the clear night sky with the bare branches reaching up to the stars.

Winter is a good time for...
painting wild colorful things
cuddling up in jammies
warm  delicious foods
tackling those inside projects
planning the next seasons gardens
being with friends.
Spring is coming- I will be happy, but I have enjoyed the winter- truly!

sparkly crow and purple horse 20"x20" acrylic and collage on canvas

My entry for the North River Arts Society's member show.
There was once a man sort of perched on the side of the horse, he has turned into a woman walking beside the horse.
And the horse is purple because...I like purple.

Darkness Darkness

I love my job sometimes- today was one of those days.
Lance Keimig, who curated the exhibit "Darkness Darkness" show of night photography, visited the museum today and spoke to a group of kids from a local school.
He had his camera and tripod with him and we corralled the 12 kids into the darkest place of the museum
( the back stairwell) and he shot some images of them twirling light sticks, flash lights and light sabers in the total darkness. The kids loved it.
The whole event was fantastic, very chaotic, and totally cool. Here is one of the images he captured....

more mosaics

The mirror in the middle is reflecting my hands!

It was really hard to photograph these at the end of the night in my studio- but these are the wonderful mosaics done by students- I love what they came up with!

daily paintworks challenge- six mugs- acrylic on panel

I was thinking I would do 8 but 6 fit better on the panel I had.
These are 10 minute studies- number one is the top middle and it goes clockwise.
I changed the background a few times, and it was an interesting and fun challenge ( but it WAS a challenge!
Here are the other entries. Thank you Carol Marine for setting up this fun thing!
I can't wait for the next one.

Castle Hill Tee Shirt Design

This is the latest tee shirt design for Castle  Hill  in Ipswich.
Have yet to hear back from them it is acceptable- it was a tough one!

This morning I am going to attempt to do the Daily Paintwork's challenge-
one object , 8 times- 10 minutes each.
YIKES! Now to find the object, with a bird...

think Im done and my mosaic class

I am thinking about Spring. Its coming. I can feel it today.

I wanted to share the mosaics done by the fantastic Seoane girls -  beautiful mother Jane  and two gorgeous talented daughters, Jenna and Kendra.
If you live near the Ventress library in Marshfield go check out Jane's show- she and her husband Lou both paint- and some of the work is co- created- fabulous!

Jenna- New Zealand memory

Kendra-- spirit dancer

Jane- boats in the sea

( I made up their titles!)

Im so lucky to be able to share creative time with these wonderful people.

another day

moving along with this one...
its really cold out in my studio so I'm sluggish. Heat takes a while to kick in sometimes...
Look up before entering doors- I didn't yesterday and a big icicle fell on my noggin.
Luckily I have a hard head but it smarted!
I didn't feel too smart though...

new start

Here is the underpainting for another painting.
Seem to be doing the same thing over and over, but its ok,
each one is part of the story, what that is remains to be told!

Winter Challenge Painting "Winter Morning" acrylic on canvas board, 6"x6"

My painting challenge theme this month was winter.
I did a sketch of my window seat this morning- I added Winnie.
Corgis are too short to see out the window-but she is easily entertained by light on the wall. Simple minds...
