Home Improvement

My daughter Markie returns from her semester in London this friday- Al and I have been working on her room- Al sanded and varnished the floors and I painted all day today- her walls are now "coral buff". I am totally fried but it's done!
This flower was only there for about 5 minutes before I rolled over it-I was thinking about how many times I have painted this room- I can still see the impression of some of the crazy murals I did when the girls were little. Markie had some big stripes and checkerboards on her walls and Maddie's room once had a huge killer whale and a corgi with a diving mask -seaweed and fish and a treasure chest- I had so much fun doing those!
I was getting  a little nostalgic today.  Painting walls is meditative in a way-mindless...I didn't even listen to music- I enjoyed the birdsongs outside and the way the light changed in the room as the hours passed. We had the full gammet of weather today-sun, a thunderstorm, gentle rain, ending with a sunset.

Flowers for Muzzy 8"x8' Oil on canvas

Last Friday I went to see my daughter Maddie in the Marshfield High school production of Thoroughly Modern Millie- and it was a joy from start to finish. These are the flowers I gave her after-
I was overwhelmed by the talent- all the cast members were incredible! And a fantastic live band! Of course MY OWN daughter was amazing( she was Muzzy- a lounge singer) but honestly every single member of the cast just rocked!  And the dancing! There were some older folks from town that just went as a night out- and they were saying how wonderful and happy it made them feel to see this caliber of youthful talent- and pure joy.
One lady said she wanted to come back every night!
The play is May 6,7 and 8 at 7:00 at the Furnace Brook middle school auditorium  in Marshfield-go see it! These  kids have worked so hard- and the director has done a wonderful job-so if you are looking for something really really special to see for a mere $12 go see it-you will love it!
I'm not just trying to get more people in the audience- I just am spreading the word about raw talent- the kind that gives you tingles. These kids can SING!

Happy Birthday Mimi!

Today is my wonderful Mother- in laws birthday- and what a fine day for it!
Mimi's house always had a lot of rabbits in them-( not real ones) so I thought it was fitting to put the bunny in the pansies.
Love you Mimi!

lilacs 8"x10" oil on panel

I woke up this morning and realized- I forgot to post! WOW- I haven't done that in a while-and maybe it is a sign that I need to step away from the blogsphere on occasion.I did paint yesterday and that is my objective- so posting can happen later.
I set up the flowers outside by my fishpond and listened to tunes out my studio while I painted this fragrant bunch of lilacs.
I just cannot get enough of lilacs. It was a perfect day for the first of May!
Yesterday I worked on my Worlds End Tee shirt design- my re-do of the first go.

Here's the scene I am trying to capture...
and here's my first go-

I think it's too busy- I like certain parts, but as a whole its not reading for me-
so heres the beginning of take #2

More to go here-but I think it works better for a tee shirt.
Then I have to add the graphics.
