Dog 30- Winnie!
I am not sad to say that the 30 in 30 challenge is over- but I am happy to say that I am continuing my dog portraits because I love doing them and I have a lot still on my list to paint- and more arriving daily. Awesome! Thanks so much you guys for getting this thing going and sending me your adorable dogs. Each one has been a joy to paint.
Day 30- The Best Dog in the WORLD ( at least to me!)
because whatever dog I have IS the best Dog in the world!
And All your dogs are the best dogs in the world to you- right? Winnie has a few faults- extremely jealous, prone to fighting, hates sneezing, barks at the vacuum and when we recline in the lazy-boy chair, runs when we try to take her picture ( have to sneak it) sometimes lies in obscene poses ( Im not posting those!) and does not tolerate any conflict in my marriage with my husband- which actually is sort of a good thing sometimes!
Here are a few of the 1,000,000 shots of her I have on my computer,
Winnie in my studio as I paint
Oliver ( my first Corgi) as a pup
Oliver as a big boy
my daughter Markie's portrait of Winnie ( love this!)
Winnie as a pup
last years gratitude painting
she flops into this position all the time- never gets old
I want a treat!

Last night on the "dog" couch!
See you all soon!

Dog # 24- "are you looking at me?"
The angle on this one was a challenge- had to dash off to work but got this far- might do a few more tweaks. Can't remember who's lab this is ( again)
Actually it's kind of fun - mystery dogs!
This is my beginning phase- I put my lovely Golden acrylics in these small snap lidded containers- so easy to start painting when I can just open them all up- they stay wet and I waste nothing!
Would the owner of this dog please step forward!

"Roxie the poi dog" #15 of the 30 in 30 challenge
This is Roxie- she is "Hawaiian poi " dog of sorts-- she wandered on to the farm and my Stepmom fell immediately in love- as did my Dad.
She was tough to capture- I struggled and maybe overworked a bit- She is a fun dog and I love to see her when I go!
here is a wiki description
"The original Hawaiian poi dog derived its name from poi, a Hawaiian staple food made from kalo or taro root. Poi was used to fatten the dogs for use as food because meat was too valuable to be used as dog food. Since the Hawaiian Islands did not have large land mammals other than feral hogs, Poi dogs weren't needed for hunting. The dogs were never deliberately bred to a standard, but human and natural selection still came into play.
European explorers like Captain Cook encountered pot-bellied, short-legged poi dogs that freely associated with hogs in the village. The dogs had very short hair that could come in any color, but brown poi dogs were regarded as distinct enough to warrant a specific name. The dogs also had peculiarly flattened heads. The latter trait is sometimes ascribed to the diet of the dogs in some unspecified way. Considering that poi does not require chewing, the dogs might have lost the need to maintain strong temporalis muscles; a reduced temporal fossa will cause a dog's head to appear flattened.[1] Poi dogs were considered rather dim-witted and sluggish[2] – any good hunting dog with acute senses would neither make a good poi dog, nor be particularly useful on the islands – however, the dogs were strong-willed and not easily commanded.
The poi dog was a two-purpose breed – used for food and as a lucky charm. Unsuited for anything else, the breed declined to extinction as the native religion was abandoned and eating dog meat became unfashionable. Feral dogs of European settlers interbred with the poi dogs, and by the early 20th century at latest, the breed disappeared as a distinct entity. "

Dog #13 and # 14 Lucy and Annie
This is Lucy. She belongs to my niece Sam's boyfriend, also named Sam. We get confused with the Sams so sometimes we call him "boy Sam". They make a great pair those two!
Annie was my Dad's golden retriever who lived in Hawaii. She has passed on now to greener pastures. (although they don't get much greener that my Dad's farm in Hawaii!)Not sure I captured her true essence- I used a couple of photo references...
