Darrell Hill

4 years ago I was so lucky to have taken a workshop with Darrell Hill here on the big island. He passed away last year. We saw a few of his paintings yesterday at a gallery at the Mana Lani resort . Such a sweet kind guy and really awesome painter.

Roxie and Hawaii journal page #1

This is my second attempt to capture.
the cuteness of Roxie-poi dog on the farm here on the big island. She is adorable!
The journal page is on a half sheet of arches watercolor paper- I am setting out to paint one page a day while I'm here and when I return bind them into a book.

It's heavenly here! Here are a few pictures.im blogging from my phone and iPad so it's a bit wonky - bear with me!

Can We Talk? and see you later WINTER!

I had to paint the scene around this guy- it it so cool how he's leaning out the window.
Heres a watercolor of my studio. I have truly enjoyed this winter - but tomorrow I go to Hawaii - winter will be over for me! I will continue to post from the farm in Honokaa, Hawaii where I will be visiting my dear Dad and his wife- and all the critters there. Aloha!

Je t'aime

Tara Bull!

In other news- the 3 year map mural project at the Bay Farm Montessori Academy in Duxbury is done! I photoshopped the world map together for them to sell as prints, mugs, whatever. I think I may return for one more session next year to do the remaining wall in the lobby- and the kids will paint people from all over the world. It's been a blast!

Buddy and my wall of dogs

Here are my dog goes that remain on my wall. I have really enjoyed painting them! At this point I am painting them on a commission basis- if you have sent me one and you would like to purchase it please let me know. The price is $125. For a 6"x6" panel, $150. For an 8"x8"
Two for $200.
I have created a display down at the Marshfield hills general store. Orders are coming in....
Who knew this would be so fun and succssful for me? I was born in the year of the dog. Hmmm.
Buddy ( below-4"x4") belongs to my nephews Antone and Luis. I had done one of these for Antone for Christmas-  this one is for Luis!

Commissioned piece 20"x36" acrylic on stretched canvas

I posted this watercolor the other day- a mash up of David Brega's beautiful painting of GAR hall, and one of  Carole Bolsey's amazing boat paintings. It was just for fun! But I was asked to replicate it on a canvas at a much bigger size. CHALLENGE!
Watercolor and acrylic are very different- although I could have tried to approach it in a similar way,  I have to paint how it comes naturally to me.
Here is the painting I had posted.
Somehow I couldn't do a winter tree. Hmmm. I had done the distant trees first and they were green and lush and summery. So I made a tree with leaves, and added fireflies into the middle ground. I sure hope the client likes this!
its not a great picure,as you can see we are having another snowstorm. those are snowflakes- not shooting stars!
I still need to tweak this a bit more...
and I really want to say thanks to David and Carole!

Southie Dog

I've known the owner of this dog for a long time- Emily Clifford. She was a camper when I started teaching at Derby Academy's summer program-now she is a teacher herself!  My girls and I love her. Markie, my oldest- couldn't wait to get back to camp to see Emily. She is one of my favorite humans!

Bright deer 6"x6" mixed media

Not sure exactly why I painted this image- but I think this describes  how I am feeling this winter. I have never felt so content to be in my studio painting- every morning- very early- looking at the dogs faces, listening to the wind, the owls in the woods, the birds at the feeder. Often I play soft dreamy music. I love the quiet soulfulness of winter. We keep getting storms, and I am very fortunate not to have to commute in them. Being home is right where I need to be. The garden is resting. No outside chores except shoveling. Early evenings snuggled up by the fire ( gas log LOL) makes me happy!
Spring is coming though- the sun is working its way around my house shining into corners ( very dusty ones!) and I feel the wake up is coming. And I will be ready!
