Happy New Year!

 Hello Friends!

I am still here, just really off the blog-train.

2022 is looking hopeful to me. I hope that you all are well and finding joy and beauty, staying healthy and creative wherever you may be. For me lately walking in the forest with my dog is my respite and bliss. I am so appreciative for the many beautiful quiet woodland trails near my house...

My two daughters are both married to wonderful men as of this year and for that I am truly grateful!

For the final post of the year on the Girls Just Wanna Paint blog  I posted this painting. If you haven't visited the blog- it's really fun- we have been at it for over 12 years now and still going strong! This month's theme was "light" - These other painters are incredible!

This is called "Improvised Mayhem"20"x24", acrylic on canvas board. I painted it in a recent class at the Plymouth Center for the Arts. It's all about letting go, keeping it light and experimenting with color.

Love this quote- "Angels fly because they take themselves lightly!"

Open Studio November 7, 2021

Hello long lost friends! 

I hope you are all staying healthy as the season brings us back into fall. I am having another open studio November 7, from 12 - 5 PM., at 369 Spring Street in Marshfield. Two more local artists and friends, Laura Harvey and Cathy McCarthy, are opening up their doors as well! Addresses below.

I will be showing some large pieces I worked on this past summer, new alphabet posters, cards and the usual bargain bins! 

We will be mostly outside, but please wear a mask inside the studio. Hope to see you there!

My open studio was great- did I remember to take pictures of the people? DUH! NO!

But here is the studio right at noon! Thank you to everyone who came and big hugs to you who couldnt, I know its alot to ask during this time.

 I drew the winners name yesterday for a free painting -and  the winner is MARY SHEEHAN WINN! With a name like that she can't help but WINN!

Mary is an amazing artist, she is one of the Girls Just Wanna Paint group and she is one of the reasons why I started this blog so many years ago.  Congrats Mary!

 I hope you all stay well and we are going to get through this pandemic. There is a light at the end of the tunnel! In the meantime, drink lots of tea or whatever and read books, binge on shows and do arts and crafts! Get cozy!

Open Studio and Giveaway!

It's been a year since I posted. A year! I guess the other forms of social media have taken me away from this- but I am going to send you an invitation to my open studio next Sunday, November 15. I have been making slideshows on my youtube channel, sort of virtual bin flip through. This year I will have DEEP discounts, if you see something on the video please inquire. I know its unlikely that I'll get a crowd, and I am mandating masks and social distancing. We will have it mostly all outside. Pray for good weather!

This is my "on my mind " for Girls Just Wanna Paint Challenge, as well as my submission for the Trekell Art Supply pet portrait competition. The sent me this interesting hexagonal panel. I miss my girl so much . Good thing I have two grandogs.

Saying Goodbye to my little buddy

We had to put our corgi Winnie down yesterday, she was 13 1/2 and was suffering from degenerative mylopothy, a disease that effects the spine and basically is the canine equivalent of ALS.
She was still eating, and not in pain, but was getting increasingly frustrated and just had no quality of life left. It's debatable - is it easier to lose a pet tragically in an accident? or to wait the long wait to the time appointed. Neither one is good at all.
My vet came to my house  and gently put her to sleep outside by my water garden. It was peaceful, she wasn't scared, but heart wrenching to say the least.
I am so grateful for the happy times we had with her, and will miss her so much. I've been working on pictures and models of her all summer, preparing I guess.

Girls Just Wanna Paint challenger- "Maine"

This is an acrylic done from a photo I shot last year up on Gott's Island. I tried to keep it simple- It's on a black primed canvas  12 "x 24".

We are celebrating our 10 year anniversary of this challenge group. Some very special peeps have been and are still part of this group.

Road Trip!

I just returned last week from a fun-filled 9 day road trip with my awesome friend Laura Harvey. We went to spend time in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, at Artist Lynn Nash's. We stayed for 3 nights in her beautiful guest house, called Libby's house. Her husband's Aunt Libby had the little ramshackle house, bought for $35.00, moved onto the spectacular property on the river in the 30's. Now it has been added to and renovated into a lovely guest house. We spent a few days relaxing, painting, reading and exploring. Lynn's family welcomed us with open arms and fed us a couple of delightful dinners. So nice!
We then trekked ( And Lynn drove separately) to the amazing Jane Filer's beach house in Oak Island, NC. We spent 4 more nights there, and painted our brains out- with intervals of swimming and exploring. I made a mosaic to leave at the beach house. I also delivered a larger mosaic I had made as a  barter with Jane for a special framers tool. Our friend Michele Yellin also met us there. We all set up studios in the area under Jane's house to paint off and on all day and night- what a blast!
The drive was long, but Laura and I never ran out of topics to discuss, and solved some of the worlds problems as well!

I have been into linoleum prints lately- this one is not only part of the Girls Just Wanna paint challenge this month- but it also is to be printed onto t shirts and bags for the upcoming North River Arts Festival this May.

Rocks, over and under water

This is my challenge piece for girls just wanna paint .It is on a huge piece of 300 lb watercolor paper, 4'x5', started with Kris Brennen, Kim Arouca, Patty De Young and Gail Hunter at Alice's house on Humarock beach last October. Kris brought the paper to the beach, we threw it on the sand and poured watercolors on it, scrubbed and splatted and had a good ol' time making a mess.
What it dried I visualized this painting, sorta, and just today got it to a place to show. More tweaking will happen, but I like it.
