"delicious" After Wayne Thiebaud

This months girls just wanna paint challenge is "delicious"
I have always loved Wayne Thiebauds use of color, outlining and texture. I had fun using acrylics and thick goopy gel medium to try to recreate the thick oil paint he used. Copying is a great way to learn and be inspired.

North River Art Festival this weekend!

Every year the festival has a feature where artists are invited to paint or decorate some sort of object- this year it was 20"x20"wooden panels to be raffled off. It raises a lot of money for our awesome art society. The theme is to use a word somewhere in the piece. I chose "fly" for this one - and "naturaleza" for the one below. I can't wait to see them all together at the opening party tonight!
I'm receiving an Honorable mention award for my "Amelia Earhart" mosaic portrait too! Feels good after last years rejection.
The festival is tomorrow and sunday 10-5. Come see the giant puppets we made too! There is a parade at 12 noon on Saturday and 1 PM Sunday.

My sketchbook from the road trip to Charleston

We drove down to see my daughter Maddie graduate ( cum laude! proud mama- can't help myself) from the College of Charleston. What a gorgeous place to go to school. She will always hold Charleston dear in her heart- just as my Mother did- she lived there as a little girl for a short time...
Did this in the car - obviously Al did the driving! I used watercolor pencils first, then wet the paper.
That is Charlotte in the background.

This was our view from where we stayed in  the lovely Kiawah villa.  40 minutes from the city- but oh so worth the drive.

I took my bike to the beach- so serene.

Interior of the living room.

somewhere along the road.

ahhhhhh…...

the beautiful marshes...

live oaks- so pretty. The moss hanging on the branches is so classic- not on these but most everywhere else...
Markie and I did this together on our last (sigh) evening.
this was the view framed by one of the screen porch windows…
It was a total blast !
One last photo of my girls...

"Good News! I saw a dog today!"
(quote from favorite movie-"elf" with Will Farrell.)

I'm having a tough time painting lately- my back is messed up from too much gardening Saturday. I also believe I need to change my painting chair- I like to sit when I am painting the dogs- but it's hell getting out of the chair. Researching back chairs. Might need one of these funny swedish ones….
Also- you might notice the Pinterest pin when the mouse hovers over the image. Not sure if I like that feature but it makes it easy to pin the dogs…might put a simple button at the bottom...
