Day One-30 in 30 challenge! "A is for Artist" 6"x6" collage and mixed media

A follower  on my blog suggested I do an alphabet - I loved the idea! I am finally getting around to it- thanks Julie White! I started this by collaging pieces from a discarded dictionary onto the panel, then painting over it. I thought more of the collage would show but it didn't seem to work out that way… I wasn't sure what I would do for A, the artist seems like a great way to start.
The challenge is online- Leslie Saeta has sponsored 4 of them so far - I really enjoy the challenge.
There are a ton of us doing it- you can see the other participants  here.

Trouant's Island Paradise, watercolor, 9"x12'

I have had the pleasure of spending time on Trouants Island in Marshfield this week- over the course of three sparkling mornings- sitting by the sea and painting this sweet cottage. It's going to be replaced soon with an equally beautiful home, so I immortalized it for my friend Beth. What a spot. I plan to return and paint the other many motifs I saw there!

In this panoramic shot you can see fourth cliff, Humarock, in the distance. To the left out of view is the mouth of the North and South River.

Paint Night at the Alden House

This is an acrylic painting I did to use for guiding a paint night- Step by step painting . It is a fundraiser for the Alden House- our neighbors at the Museum.  Pilgrims John and Pricilla Alden lived there and now it is a historical museum. The evening is on September 18- more details to follow but let me know if you want to come!
Here is  a slideshow I made showing the steps.

Super heros

A couple of years ago I was hired to paint "Hey Diddle Diddle" on this kids wall- now he's two and into superheroes. I painted this yesterday over the old mural. It was fun doing the graffiti style letters.

Summer memories

This is a watercolor - about 12"x16".  It's based on my wonderful recent trip to Lake George.
know- summer is still here- but I have that Sunday night feeling-and not quite sure what to do with myself…
This summer has been amazing weather- not too hot- sunny days. My flower garden has never been better!
Things are winding down pretty fast, the days are cooler and the nights are getting longer. My daughter Markie was here for a week and returns to New York today :(
However - we are  coming into a new season soon- and we can be reborn again, into the fall, filled with richness and new beginnings. Some people around here get sad this time of year and dread the winter, and it can be contagious. I love winter though- its a quiet soulful time and being inside painting is my favorite thing to do. It all keeps moving- round and round….
Happy last days of August everyone.

mosaic- 11"x19" glass on glass

I started this in July and just finished it the other day. It's made by cutting up stained glass and gluing it on to the front of the framed glass with Weldbond glue. I then use a black grout. Its a lot easier than leaded glass- although I do want to try that too someday!

Jindo 8"x8" acrylic

I met Jindo in Hawaii -this is a trade for a bracelet from his owners grandmother Lucinda Moran. She is a friend of my stepmoms - I love her work. Check it out here.http://www.lucindamoran.com
This is a beautiful breed of dog from Korea. I thought it fitting to put Jindo in the moonlight.
